Benedict Phillips was AIR North digital artist in residence from September 2014 until March 2015, commissioned by St. Helens Arts and Library Services to develop a digital artwork responding to the centenary of World War One.
This website includes an introduction About the project by Benedict Phillips and contains a touch screen version of the final artwork which is optimised to work on tablets and smartphones. The work was built with WebGL which is still considered an experimental technology so you will need a modern web browser such as Chrome or Firefox, and a recent video card with up-to-date drivers.
Also contained on the website is a section with four sound recordings, produced during the research and development stage of the project.
Information about the up and coming book of the project, Here Now & Looking Back - St Helens 1914-1918, by Benedict Phillips will be available from June 2015 at www.popublishing.co.uk.
This project was made possible through a commission as part of St.Helens Council Cultural Hubs programme which is supported by National Lottery money, distributed through Arts Council England’s Grant for The Arts (Libraries) fund.
Cultural Hubs is St.Helens Council’s arts in libraries project, which enables the Arts and Libraries services, in collaboration with local residents, to animate St.Helens’ network of 13 libraries with high quality performances, commissions, residencies, plays, gigs, workshops, courses, events and exhibitions.
